Las Vegas Ice Center is going green after adding a new solar system to its rooftop.

The ice skating center says the solar panels will generate 900,000 kWh per year, reducing energy costs by more than $2 million over the next 25 years.

By using solar energy, the Ice Center expects to reduce its carbon emissions by an estimated 324.4 tons per year as well.

"Energy costs have always been a concern for our business," Keith Brooks, co-owner of Las Vegas Ice Center, said in a statement. "Keeping our facility cool, including our two large ice rinks, is essential all year long and increasingly costly during the many months of 100+ degree days. Harnessing the sun's energy gives us the power we need, reduces our electricity costs, and allows us to do our part to reduce our carbon footprint."

Las Vegas-based company Sol-Up installed the panels, which were produced by solar manufacturer Meyer-Burger in Arizona.

As part of the energy transformation, the Ice Center says it also uses an electric and rechargeable ice resurfacer, also known as a Zamboni, on its two rinks.
